Why Reading is Rad

As children, reading is a core foundation and staple activity in our day. Throughout school we gain extraordinary amounts of information and knowledge through books.

As we age, the hours once spent in books are now typically spent in front of a computer or on handheld device.

There are many benefits for re-introducing reading into your day. Below are a number of reasons why you should pick the paperback up and charter your way through a few chapters, each and every day.

  • Motivation and inspiration - Whether it’s a biography or a fictional fantasy, reading can provide motivation and inspiration as you read about other’s experiences – many of which are different to your own.
  • Anywhere, anytime. - Given the portability of a book, reading allows you to unwind any place at any time.
  • Low cost entertainment - Books are a relatively low cost source of entertainment. Public libraries have resources or online copies available for little or no cost.
  • Sharing is caring- Books bring those who share common interests together. They provide great conversation starters and topics for discussion amongst friends and colleagues.
  • Memory, vocabulary and grammar - Reading provides you with exposure to new words and topics, whilst forcing you to recall and store information in your memory bank.
  • Relieve stress and anxiety - reading provides an outlet for you to focus your attention on other things outside your own worries and anxieties. Allowing you to focus on positive stories and situations helps us reach for better feeling thoughts.
  • Increase Knowledge - They say “Readers are Leaders”! Reading allows you to increase and expand your knowledge in variety of new areas. Stories bring to light different perspectives and outlooks on topics, and gain an understanding of the viewpoints of others.
