WAG Q&A With Adee Cazayoux: Handling Haters, Consistency & Sniffles

Spring’s here and summer’s right around the corner. In this episode Adee offers nutrition tips that’ll help you make this summer your best yet! Watch to get some advice on dealing with judgment, food variety versus food consistency, and what to do about your nutrition when you’re under the weather.

Q: How should I manage judgment from others in my nutrition program?

A: Judgment from others can be one of the toughest things to handle. You’re working hard, staying focused, seeing results and you’re looking to make a change for the better. But sometimes, the judgment of others can make it harder to stay on track because we all care about what others think of us to some extent. When confronting judgment, my biggest piece of advice would be to remember that often when someone judges you for your choices, it really has a lot more to do with them than with you. In the past, I’ve handled this situation by first staying on track, regardless of the judgment. Then I keep doing my thing and either ignore them or ask them politely to stop saying what they’re saying, without pushing my beliefs on them. Eventually, when I make a ton of progress, they start asking me how I’m doing it rather than judging me. Remember, your nutrition program is about you and your choices, not about what others think.

Q: How will food variety help me enjoy my meals, because I struggle with consistency?

A: There are two types of people we see at Working Against Gravity. There are the ones who love variety in their diet and the ones who prefer consistency in their diet. To the ones who love variety, I’m with you. We find it difficult to stay on track with a consistent diet because we get easily bored eating the same foods. I don’t like to plan ahead of time and I enjoy the freedom that comes with choosing foods in the moment or according to whatever I’m in the mood for. The great part about our type? Variety helps us stay on track. The downside for us? We have to put in a little extra work because we don’t have a template of meals to follow. Variety also makes tracking more difficult because we have to keep crunching numbers.

The second type of person doesn’t need as much variety and enjoys the comfort in consistent meals. Having similar meals day after day makes life a little less stressful because you know what’s in each food item you’re eating. Also, you know how to plug and play food items for a bit of variety so that you can make your goals without the extra work.  

Whichever type you are, you can make this nutrition program work!  

Q: What should I do when I am sick? Should I eat less?

A: When you’re sick, your nutrition program takes a back seat to your health. Our main priority is for you to get healthy and back to your regular life as quickly as possible. First and foremost, you should follow your doctor’s instructions. If your healthy return means eating chicken soup or drinking extra water, do that. Hitting your macros isn’t important when your health is on the line. However, being sick is not an excuse to sit on the couch and eat junk food. Remember, it’s still important, maybe even more so when you’re sick, to get all your vitamins and minerals. Stick to whole food sources, get rest and good-quality sleep and you’ll be back to yourself in no time!
