Best Case Schedule
It’s easy to feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything you need to do done, let alone the things you want to do…. but what if I told you that it was possible.
When we approach our daily activities - whether it is training, meal prep, or simply tracking your macros - with the same priority do work or school, it makes it a lot less likely for it to feel negotiable. We've all had moments where guilt, peer pressure or simply feeling 'too busy' get's in the way of truly investing in our happiness, but what would it look like we stopped letting that happen?
Grab a pen and paper. I want you to pretend that time is not a factor right now. Make a list of all the things you have to get done over the week, the things you enjoy that you do regularly, as well as ALL the things wish you had more time for. Include even the smallest activities.
An example of this may look like:
- Meal Prep
- Self Care
- Social Time
- A Hobby
Try to suspend the voice that tells you that this is silly, or that this is never going to work, if even for ten minutes. Build a schedule that is somewhat realistic (you can’t magically shorten your work day, unless this is a possibility for you), but that includes all the tasks that somehow get pushed to the side when things get busy. The process of building this schedule may feel like a stretch but the more we can learn to treat these activities as appointments and accept them as very real possibilities to add to our routine rather than just a wish list, the more likely it is that we can get them done.
This activity might also help you identify some things in your routine that may not be adding as much as you think to your life, and are emptying your emotional bank more than you’d like.
Allocating energy towards positive productivity rather than focusing on why things feel ‘impossible’ is freeing. By naming these things as priorities, we are able to stay more accountable to why we can’t keep pushing them aside. It's hard to make things that some may deem non-essential a mandatory part of your week that you absolutely will not budge for, but that's OK. Give yourself permission to commit wholeheartedly to the things that bring value to your day to day, and let go of the things that don't- even if they feel comfortable.
