Name: Kara Webb

Location: Brisbane Australia

Goal: Improve athletic performance

Sport: CrossFit

Q: Why did you decide to join Team WAG?

A: I wanted to improve my athletic performance and recognized the room for improvement in this department. Nutrition was always very important to me and I prioritized holistic eating, however, I had never considered sports and performance nutrition.

Q) Was there anything about the program that surprised you?

A: Everything. I was so surprised by the ratios of macronutrients and how much better I could recover and how my mood and energy leveled out. I thought that the changes I would make would predominantly be directly to my body composition. That changed but the physical was secondary to the changes to me as a person. An improved mode, more energy, balanced hormones, and enough carbohydrates made training and life in general so much easier. Another massive surprise was the aerobic capacity. I struggled to get out of breath. It's amazing.

Q) As an athlete, your training schedule is intense and varied. How have you managed to stay on track while balancing all of your commitments?

A: Nutrition and balancing my macros just became one of those commitments. It took some time to adjust to fitting it in and then I made it a habit. The accountability and amazing feeling from that was addictive and made it so easy to follow. Keeping it simple and being prepared is the key to finding a routine with it. I stocked up on my favorite foods that I know work for me and then familiarized myself with them. If you don’t look for entertainment from your food and see it as fuel it’s easy. My number one tip is to record your day as best you can ahead of time and make adjustments along the way. The things I know I’m guaranteed to eat I input first thing in the morning and then work backwards.

Q) How has your performance in the gym been affected by tracking, if at all?

A: In every way possible. I have so much more energy, less emotional outbursts, struggle to lose my breath, and just generally recover so much faster. Combine all of these things and your athletic performance naturally goes through the roof.

Q) What has been the biggest change you've made in your lifestyle since joining?

A: My relationship with food has changed. I can’t help but look at food as more of nutrition than anything, and what it can do for me rather than how nice it tastes. I still enjoy nice tasting food but I don’t need it. If it does the job it’s supposed to I don’t care what it is. I feel so empowered by having control of how I feel by calculating my nutrition that I can’t imagine not doing it.

Q) What advice do you have for other people considering hiring a nutrition coach?

A: Listen and trust. Be as strict as you possibly can so you don't give yourself opportunities to slip up. Be accurate and accountable and don’t ask for help unless you are willing to listen and follow their guidance. My other tip is to give your coach as much detail as possible. The more information you give them the better they can do their job and help you. It's a team effort and honestly is crucial for success.
